Can’t Wait Wednesday

I know, I haven’t posted one of these for a few weeks, mostly because I’ve lost track of when books are being released. However, I found a cool website that keeps me informed, so these should be showing up more frequently. I found this on The Tattooed Book Geek‘s blog, who found it via Wishful Endings, and it was based on Waiting on Wednesday founded by Breaking the Spine.

This week’s book is The Camelot Betrayal by Kiersten White, which comes out November 10, 2020.

The Camelot Betrayal by Kiersten White

EVERYTHING IS AS IT SHOULD BE IN CAMELOT: King Arthur is expanding his kingdom’s influence with Queen Guinevere at his side. Yet every night, dreams of darkness and unknowable power plague her.

Guinevere might have accepted her role, but she still cannot find a place for herself in all of it. The closer she gets to Brangien, pining for her lost love Isolde, Lancelot, fighting to prove her worth as Queen’s knight, and Arthur, everything to everyone and thus never quite enough for Guinevere–the more she realizes how empty she is. She has no sense of who she truly was before she was Guinevere. The more she tries to claim herself as queen, the more she wonders if Mordred was right: she doesn’t belong. She never will.

When a rescue goes awry and results in the death of something precious, a devastated Guinevere returns to Camelot to find the greatest threat yet has arrived. Not in the form of the Dark Queen or an invading army, but in the form of the real Guinevere’s younger sister. Is her deception at an end? And who is she really deceiving–Camelot, or herself?

I haven’t yet read The Guinevere Deception, but I do have a copy. I’m waiting to read it until The Camelot Betrayal comes out in November because I just know I’m going to want that second book right away. Of course, I’ll then have to wait for the third book, but oh well.

I’ve always loved King Arthur and stories based on Arthurian mythology, so this book is going to be perfect for me.

What book is on your “can’t wait” list?

Title: The Queen of Nothing
Series: The Folk of the Air
Author: Holly Black
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Publication Date: November 29, 2019
Format: Hardcover
Pages: 300
Synopsis from Goodreads:

The finale to the New York Times bestselling Folk of Air trilogy, that started with The Cruel Prince and The Wicked King, from award-winning author Holly Black.

After being pronounced Queen of Faerie and then abruptly exiled by the Wicked King Cardan, Jude finds herself unmoored, the queen of nothing. She spends her time with Vivi and Oak, watches her fair share of reality television, and does the odd job or two, including trying to convince a cannibalistic faerie from hunting her own in the mortal world.

When her twin sister Taryn shows up asking of a favor, Jude jumps at the chance to return to the Faerie world, even if it means facing Cardan, who she loves despite his betrayal.

When a dark curse is unveiled, Jude must become the first mortal Queen of Faerie and uncover how to break the curse, or risk upsetting the balance of the whole Faerie world.

I’ve been wanting this book since I finished The Wicked King. In fact, I pre-ordered it as soon as I looked it up on Amazon and found out it was available. At that time it said The Queen of Nothing was slated for a January release, but now it says November. I can’t wait.

Title: Finale
Series: Caraval
Author: Stephanie Garber
Publisher: Flatiron Books
Publication Date: May 7, 2019
Format: Hardcover
Pages: 496
Synopsis from Goodreads:

Welcome, welcome to Finale, the third and final book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Caraval series!

Welcome, welcome to Caraval…all games must come to an end.

It’s been two months since the last Caraval concluded, two months since the Fates have been freed from an enchanted deck of cards, two months since Tella has seen Legend, and two months since Legend claimed the empire’s throne as his own. Now, Legend is preparing for his official coronation and Tella is determined to stop it. She believes her own mother, who still remains in an enchanted sleep, is the rightful heir to the throne.

Meanwhile, Scarlett has started a game of her own. She’s challenged Julian and her former fiancé, Count Nicolas d’Arcy, to a competition where the winner will receive her hand in marriage. Finaly, Scarlett feels as if she is in complete control over her life and future. She is unaware that her mother’s past has put her in the greatest danger of all.

Caraval is over, but perhaps the greatest game of all has begun―with lives, empires, and hearts all at stake. There are no spectators this time: only those who will win…and those who will lose everything. . .

I have the first two books, Caraval and Legendary but I haven’t read them as I’m waiting for Finale to come out so I can binge read it. Luckily my wait is over because my copy should be arriving on May 7!

Waiting on Wednesday #2

This week I’m going to focus on a few new releases that are coming out this month. Some of these books may have come out on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd but I’m still waiting to get a copy. 😉

The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu – April 9, 2019
The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman – April 2, 2019
Defy Me by Tahereh Mafi – April 2, 2019
Mirror, Mirror by Jen Calonita – April 2, 2019

Around my household we’ve been loving the Twisted Tales series from Disney. My roommate plowed through As Old As Time in a single night. Fortunately the library is currently obtaining a copy of Mirror, Mirror and there are only 2 people, including myself, who have it on hold at the moment. I have the rest of the series being held for me as well. I’ve heard good things about The Red Scrolls of Magic and The Devouring Gray from book bloggers and booktubers, so I decided I’ll have to check them out for myself. I also am planning to start reading the Shatter Me series and figure I may as well add Defy Me to the list as well.

Are there any books you’re waiting for?

Waiting on Wednesday #1

Title: Wildcard
Series: Warcross
Author: Marie Lu
Publisher: G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers
Publication Date: September 18, 2018 (expected)
Format: Hardcover
Pages: 352
Synopsis from Goodreads: Emika Chen barely made it out of the Warcross Championships alive. Now that she knows the truth behind Hideo’s new NeuroLink algorithm, she can no longer trust the one person she’s always looked up to, who she once thought was on her side.

Determined to put a stop to Hideo’s grim plans, Emika and the Phoenix Riders band together, only to find a new threat lurking on the neon-lit streets of Tokyo. Someone’s put a bounty on Emika’s head, and her sole chance for survival lies with Zero and the Blackcoats, his ruthless crew. But Emika soon learns that Zero isn’t all that he seems–and his protection comes at a price.

Caught in a web of betrayal, with the future of free will at risk, just how far will Emika go to take down the man she loves?

The ending of Warcross left me dying to see what happens next. The revelation at the end of who Zero is and why he is trying to stop Hideo was a twist that I expected (I suspected who Zero was ever since Hideo told Emika about his family tragedy), but I didn’t expect the reason why he wanted to stop Hideo.

I can’t wait to see how this all plays out – does Emika join with Zero? Does she try to convince Hideo that what he’s doing is wrong? Or will something else entirely happen? I don’t know, but I can’t wait to find out!
